‘Remarkable’ switch to pro-life: Former abortionist urges voters to reject all 10 state abortion amendments

In a stunning life change, an infamous abortionist now urges voters in 10 states to reject ballot amendments that would greatly expand abortion in their states.

As reported by Operation Rescue, Dr. Forrest Smith, a longtime California abortionist whose clinic was often protested by pro-life activists, has forged a “powerful shift” in his life and is now listed as “turned pro-life” on the watchdog group’s web page AbortionDocs.org.

A press release last week announced that Smith, who has performed thousands of abortions, now is calling for an end to the procedure, especially in the case of later-term abortions, stating, “There is no need to kill viable babies.”

The former abortionist, who has also practiced for 54 years as an obstetrician, has delivered thousands of babies. He now argues unwanted, later-term babies can be safely delivered early and placed in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) for care.

“Termination does not equal abortion,” Smith says. “We can save these babies. We have the medical technology and resources to ensure that any child born, even prematurely, can receive the care they need.”

Smith is now stressing women can be respected while the lives of unborn babies can be saved.

“He has aligned with the growing pro-life movement, advocating for alternatives to abortion and calling on voters to make their voices heard at the polls,” the press statement observed.

Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, said Smith’s transformation is extraordinary.

“For decades, we protested outside of Dr. Smith’s clinics, fighting against what we saw as a terrible injustice. Now, to call him a friend and ally in the fight to protect the unborn is a remarkable moment. His decision to stand with us and speak out for life shows how powerful truth can be. Together, we now work to save the very lives we once stood on opposite sides over.”

Smith’s profound conversion comes as voters in these states are urged to vote “NO” on these ballot measures: Arizona (Prop 139); Colorado (Amendment 79); Florida (Amendment 4); Maryland (Question 1); Missouri (Amendment 3); Montana (CI-128); Nebraska (Initiative 439); Nevada (Question 6); New York (Prop 1); and South Dakota (Amendment G).

Operation Rescue notes Nebraska is the only state that also has a pro-life amendment on the ballot – The Protect Women and Children Initiative.

As The Heartlander has reported, pro-life activists and OB/GYNs have worked during this election season to debunk the rhetoric coming from abortion-rights activists that claims state pro-life laws – passed by legislatures and signed into law by governors – are dangerous to women and doctors.

“Stop intimidating people with lies. Prolife laws protect women and girls,” Dr. Christina Francis, CEO of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG), said as she condemned the false narrative claiming doctors in states with pro-life laws can’t help women in pregnancy emergencies for fear of going to jail.

“Every law in the country allows for OB/GYNs like me to intervene immediately when a woman has a potentially life-threatening condition.” 

Additionally, a recent report at the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) has revealed out-of-state leftist dark money groups, such as the Soros family, have joined with public-sector unions in “pouring tens of millions into Florida to enshrine abortion as a right in the state’s constitution.”

“Liberal dark money groups have supported similar abortion ballot measures in Ohio and Michigan,” the DCNF report observed. “Many Democratic strategists see November’s abortion referendums as an opportunity to sway voters to their side in the presidential election.”

“We’ve already seen this tragedy play out in Kansas,” Operation Rescue’s Newman cautioned. “In the summer of 2022, pro-life citizens failed to stop the country’s first abortion amendment post-Roe. Less than two years later, we witnessed a 201% increase in abortions across what was once seen as a conservative, pro-life state.

“Longstanding abortion regulations have also been struck down using the new amendment. We cannot stress enough how vital it is for pro-life voters to show up at the polls and vote no on these amendments! If these amendments pass, our nation will be struck by a large-scale slaughter of innocent babies like we’ve never seen before.

“These 10 amendments, if passed, will radically increase the number of children killed by abortion in America as well as the gestational ages at which they will perish – namely, in the second and third trimester. Pray for these states, brothers and sisters. And if you happen to live in one of them, vote no, and bring a few friends to vote no with you.”
