foundvoters overwhelmingly believe President Donald Trump and Republicans “got more of what they wanted” from the recent government shutdown –the longest in history at 43 days. Of nearly 1,300 adults surveyed in the two days after the shutdown ended late Wednesday, 55% said Trump and Republicans got more of what they wanted, versus just 6% for Democrats. Similarly, 55% of Democrats said their party compromised “too much,” versus just 17% of Republicans who said that of their party.

The shutdown
endedafter eight Senate Democrats joined with Republicans to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government through Jan. 30. The Republican-controlled House also passed the measure, which Trump signed last week. The move restored food assistance benefits, including SNAP for millions and pay for federal workers. Air traffic controllers in particular had been taking time off work, leading to a temporary reduction in flights. Flight schedules reportedly
returnedto normal Monday. Democrats used the shutdown to fight for continuing enhanced Obamacare tax credits, which are scheduled to revert to pre-pandemic levels at the end of the year, The Center Square
reported. Senate Republicans have promised a vote on extending the credits as part of the deal to end the shutdown, but Republicans are pushing instead to change the system. Trump proposed Wednesday
sendingAffordable Care Act subsidies directly to people rather than insurance companies, allowing them to “buy their own health care.” Voters are skeptical about the government’s ability to address rising health insurance costs, with 65% of those polled saying they believe premiums will increase after the shutdown. But 51% said they believe air travel will improve now that the government is open.
