The Seattle police officers union is pushing back after socialist Mayor Katie Wilson demanded it remove a post highlighting how surveillance cameras aid public safety efforts.
Wilson, who has opposed expanding the city’s surveillance camera network, accused the Seattle Police Officers Guild of violating city policy after it posted video of a triple shooting outside a nightclub in mid-May.
The union paired the footage with a message directed at the mayor.
“Mayor Katie, how many more examples do you need?” the post said. “Don’t take away the vital tools officers rely on to identify, locate, and apprehend violent criminals in our city.”
Union President Kent Loux responded by sending Wilson’s office a cease-and-desist order, arguing the footage was publicly sourced and did not violate any city policy.
Loux also said the union would continue advocating for stronger public safety measures despite pressure from city leadership.
“We’re not changing our tone, our rhetoric,” he told KOMO-TV. “We’re not going to be threatened or intimidated.”
